Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Pick a Game (the “App”) collects, uses, and shares information when you use our mobile app and related services. By using Pick a Game you agree to this policy.

1. Who we are

Pick a Game is a free app for organizing and joining local pickup sports games. For any privacy question or request, contact privacy@pickupagame.app.

2. Information we collect

We collect only what we need to run the app. We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share personal data with advertisers.

Data	Why we collect it
Email address	To create and secure your account (authentication).
Display name	Shown to other players on game rosters and ratings.
City & preferred sports	To show you nearby, relevant games. You type your city, or optionally let the App suggest it (see Location below).
Game activity	RSVPs, waitlist status, attendance, organizer ratings (thumbs up/down), and the games you host — to run events and the reliability/badge features.
Push notification token	To send you game reminders and updates. Optional — only if you allow notifications.
Ad interaction (impressions/clicks)	Logged with your account id plus city and sport, to report aggregate performance to advertisers. Advertisers never receive your identity.

Device permissions

Notifications — optional; used for game reminders and waitlist alerts.
Calendar — optional; if you allow it, the App adds a game to your device calendar. This happens on your device; we do not read or store your calendar.

What we do not collect

Precise, continuous, or background location. If you tap “Use my current location” during setup and allow it, the App reads your approximate (city-level) location once, on your device, to fill in your city name. Your device’s operating system (Apple or Google) converts it to a city name; the coordinates are never sent to or stored by Pick a Game — only the city you confirm is saved.
Payment or card details — cost-splitting figures are informational only; the App does not process payments.
Contacts, photos, or microphone data.

3. How we use your information

To provide core features: discovery, RSVP, waitlists, teams, tournaments, and ratings.
To send transactional email and push notifications (reminders, cancellations, waitlist promotions).
To maintain accountability features (reliability score, badges, organizer tier).
To show relevant local ads and report aggregate performance to advertisers.
To keep the service secure and prevent abuse.

4. Advertising

Pick a Game shows native in-feed ads from local, sports-adjacent businesses. No personal data shared Ads are targeted only by city and sport. We do not use third-party advertising SDKs, cross-app tracking, or device advertising identifiers, and advertisers receive only aggregate counts (impressions, clicks, CTR) — never your name, email, or identity.

5. Service providers we share data with

We use trusted infrastructure providers strictly to operate the App. They process data on our behalf:

Google Firebase (Authentication, Firestore, Cloud Functions, Storage) — account, profile, and game data. See Google's privacy terms.
Firebase “Trigger Email” extension — to send transactional emails.
Expo push notification service — to deliver notifications to your device.

We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights and safety of our users.

6. Data retention & deletion

We keep your data while your account is active. You can permanently delete your account in the App under Profile → Delete account, or use our web deletion-request page. You may request access, correction, or export by emailing privacy@pickupagame.app. Deletion removes your profile and associated hosted games, community ownership, RSVPs, ratings, and sponsored-card interaction history, except where limited retention is legally required.

7. Security

Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and stored on Google Cloud infrastructure. Access to integrity-critical data is enforced server-side. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.

8. Children

Accounts are for parents, guardians, and players aged 16 or older. Parents and guardians may organize and RSVP to games their children attend, but children do not create accounts and we do not ask for children's personal data. If you believe someone under 16 has created an account or provided us data, contact privacy@pickupagame.app and we will delete it.

9. International users

Your data may be processed on servers located outside your country. By using the App you consent to this transfer, processing, and storage.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, in-app notice.
